Keystar was contacted by one of the largest car parking company's in the UK by a very worried HR manager. The company were losing far too many staff on a regular basis. Apparently one of the managers was in desperate need of Mangement Skills training. The only background we had was that he was ex military, was in his late 50's and had worked for the company for many years.

A Management Skills course was booked to be held on one of their sites, but away from his usual workplace. The trainer arrived at 09.00 for a 09.30 start. The delgate had not arrived by 09.50 so he called into Keystar to see if there was a problem. Keystar telephoned the company and was told that the delegate should have been there but subsequently found out that he had not left yet.

He arrived at the training site at 10.30, stormed into the room without an appology but barking at the trainer 'I don't know why I am here, there is nothiong you can teach me about management, I was a Sargent Major in the army for 20 years'. Our trainer offered him the opportunity to leave if he wanted to, as trying to train somebody with such a negative attitude would probably be a waste of time. However, he decided to stay saying 'I will give it until lunchtime'.

Lunch came and went and at 17.50 (the course was due to end at 17.30) he was reluctant to end the course. He told the trainer that he didn't realise that there was so much to Management Skills and he had learnt so much.

A few weeks later Keystar received another call from this company asking us to provide an Assertiveness Course for the same manager. He had at last realised that the aggressive behaviour that he had been adopting was the reason for staff leaving, and if he could learn to be assertive rather than aggressive the company as well as himself would benefit.
